Taking Cuttings for Propagation

Description:  During this beginning presentation you will learn how to take the different types of plant cuttings for propagation.  You will learn the best time to take cuttings and the steps required to collect, plant, and maintain cuttings for successful new plants.  Tips and methods of preventing 'Damping off' disease will also be discussed.

Presenter Master Gardener Virginia Martin:  Virginia Martin was trained as a UC Master Gardener in 2006.  Virginia has been propagating plants for many years.  She has a ½ acre park-like garden at her home.  With winter frost and animal damage she loses plants but they can easily be replaced by the stock of propagated plants she grows and keeps in the wings.   She gives a class on propagation in the summer at the UC Master Gardener Gardening Education Center at the San Mateo Event Center. The abundance of plants propagated from the class are typically sold at the Master Gardener Spring Garden Market in April.

Location:  This presentation is hosted by the San Mateo Arboretum and held via Zoom.   Register for the class and you will be sent the Zoom information.

Registration is Required:  Please go at the San Mateo Arboretum website to register.
