Educational Garden Tour - 2013

Coming on June 22, 2013 •
Inspiration and advice for creating
attractive, sustainable, water-wise gardens
Watch this page for more information on the upcoming 2013 Garden Tour. The following information is about last year's Garden Tour --
The tour offers a wide range of garden styles. There is a southwestern style cactus garden, an all-edible home landscape, a natural garden to complement mature oak trees, a large garden that uses a variety of alternatives to the traditional turf lawn and a party garden--the "Rockin' M Rancho" -- designed for entertaining and filled with delightful folk art. The gardens include combinations of low-water ornamental plants and edibles, and incorporate other sustainable gardening practices.
The local Master Gardener program's demonstration garden at Redwood High School in Redwood City was included in the tour. This school garden features vegetables, fruit trees, herbs and chickens.
In each garden, Master Gardener volunteers were on hand to answer questions and demonstrate sustainable gardening practices, including turf alternatives, wildlife-friendly gardening, efficient irrigation, growing edibles and much more.
The plant sale was at Redwood High School, our starting point, and will have these and other plants available for sale. Flower, herb, succulent and vegetable seedlings are priced at $3-$10, depending on their size.
We also had a book sale at Redwood High School.

Proceeds help finance the educational activities of the San Mateo/San Francisco Master Gardener program. Master Gardeners are a part of University of California Cooperative Extension. We are UC-trained volunteers who provide home gardeners with research-based information that promotes sustainable gardening practices and a healthy environment.
